FFrom stubbornly high bills to uncertainty about interest rates, the pressure on household finances doesn’t look like it’s going to ease any time soon. The Bank of England kept interest rates at 3.75 per cent as global tensions, including the conflict in Iran, kept inflation risks alive and delayed hoped-for cuts. For many, this means mortgages remain expensive and any real relief remains out of reach.
And there’s another change coming soon: The new tax year starts April 6.
This brings with it a series of changes that can quietly reshape your finances. Dividend taxes are rising, the work-from-home allowance is being abolished and key thresholds and allowances remain tight.
For savers, this is a final call to use this year’s ISA allowance before it resets as future cash ISA limits start to tighten. At the same time, a higher minimum wage will increase incomes for some, even as costs continue to rise elsewhere.
In short: a lot is changing and not all of it is obvious.
