Counting of votes for Maharashtra local body polls on December 21, not December 3: HC to SEC

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, directed the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct the counting of votes in the local body elections on December 21 instead of December 3.
The HC’s order came a few days after the SEC rescheduled elections in some local bodies to December 20, on a day when polls were held for elections to 264 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Maharashtra.
The Supreme Court, while hearing multiple petitions challenging the SEC’s decision, also directed that the exit polls not be released until December 20.
Senior advocate Firdous Mirza, appearing on behalf of one of the petitioners, said: PTI It was stated that HC postponed the counting of votes for local body elections to December 21.
