Couple ‘dined on Dover sole and calamari’ before leaving restaurant ‘without paying’

Police are investigating reports that two men left a luxury seafood restaurant without paying their £115 bill.

A man and a woman visited the El Puerto restaurant in Penarth, Wales, on Monday evening; The footage showed them parking and enjoying food and drinks. It was later claimed that they left without paying the bill.

The pair reportedly ordered an all-day set menu for £32, including a single Dover dish for £52.10, calamari for £9.50 and eight Coca-Colas for £22. The bill totaled £115.60. BBC Wales The person who managed to get hold of the unpaid invoice.

El Puerto, in his post on social media after the incident, called on the couple to pay their bills and said: “We have a polite request from the two customers who visited the Customs House today… We ask you to return and pay your outstanding bill.

“We prefer to resolve this directly and would appreciate you contacting us as soon as possible.

“We have your vehicle registration in our records. Please return or contact the team to arrange payment.”

South Wales Police confirmed they had received a report of theft from Customs and urged anyone with information to get in touch by calling 2600206060.

The restaurant’s owner, Tanny Martinez, told local media the incident was a “huge disappointment” for the entire team.

“The hospitality industry is already facing an incredibly challenging economic environment, with rising costs and pressures across the industry, without having to deal with situations like this,” he said.

“It is incredibly frustrating that the hard work and dedication to creating great experiences for our customers is not respected.”

“Situations like this can also have a real impact on team morale and wellbeing, especially when so much care and effort goes into each service.”
