Couple killed, man arrested in alleged DV stabbing

A couple was stabbed to death during an early morning fight and a man who had a previous relationship with one of the victims is in custody.
NSW police were called to a property at Quakers Hill in Sydney’s northwest just before 5am on Sunday following reports of a disturbance.
Officers found a man in his 30s lying on the pavement with stab wounds to his abdomen and hand.
He was treated by paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition, but he died from his injuries hours later.
A woman, also in her 30s, was found dead in the kitchen of the house after suffering multiple stab wounds.
There was no one else in the house at that time.
A neighbor said he heard some crashing near the house before hearing a woman scream four times.
“Just a wordless scream of fear… then two or three different dogs started barking at the same time, and then everything suddenly stopped at the same time,” he told news crews at the scene.
He said it was “pure silence” until police arrived about 20 minutes later.
A 47-year-old man was taken into custody after attending Blacktown Police Station.
After the man’s arrest, police found a knife at a service station in Woodcroft, about five miles from the scene.
Inspector Jason Joyce said the victims were believed to be in a relationship.
“We’re not sure what kind of relationship it was or the duration of that relationship,” he told reporters on Sunday.
“The man in custody had been in a relationship with the woman before.”
Supt Joyce said based on initial investigations the incident appeared to be related to domestic violence.
The man who surrendered is known to police and is cooperating with investigations. He has not yet been charged.
Supt Joyce said: “Obviously this is a very traumatic incident, traumatic for my police force. I offer my condolences to the families of those killed in the incident.”
Several crime scenes have been identified, including the house where the couple were murdered, the service station where the knife was found, the Blacktown home of the arrested man and the hospital.
Strike Force Acoma detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and continue to scan the street for CCTV footage between 4.30am and 5.30am.
