Covid Reaffirmed India’s Belief In Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Says Governor

Hyderabad: The Covid pandemic has reminded the world that India still believes in the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), Governor Jishnu Dev Varma said on Friday.

“We have always believed that the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ of the world is a single family and the pandemic has reminded the world that this Indian philosophy still guides us… A city grows not only through infrastructure and industry but also through unity, solidarity and the desire to lift each other up,” the governor said, releasing the book ‘The Extra Mile’ written by Yedula Krishna and Arun Tiwari.

Speaking about the book, the Governor said it is more than a book, it is a tribute to the spirit of togetherness and building a stronger community and nation.

Author Yedula Krishna said the book tells the story of every officer, doctor, staff and citizen who refused to give up during the pandemic.

The book highlights how Cyberabad has become a hub of innovation and responsibility, showing how strategic planning, collaboration and civic engagement can shape an ecosystem that supports both industry and society.

It documents how government agencies, industry partners, technology providers, police, civil society and citizens unite towards a common goal to ensure safety, continuity of life and continued support for all.

DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy said that writers have made a significant effort to remember the days of the pandemic, which hit hard both the rich and the poor.

Cyberabad Security Council Society (SCSC) president Avinash Mohanty said Covid is a testing period in world history and has brought out both the best and the worst in people.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said Covid-19 poses a huge challenge but it has also proven how vital compassion and responsibility are.

Former DGP Mahendar Reddy said the pandemic has brought out the humanity in everyone who does extraordinary things, from ordinary citizens and volunteers to first responders.

Arun Tiwari, co-author of the book, V. Rajanna, Head of Technology, Software and Services, TCS; Mahesh Bhagawat, ADG law and order; and Sailaja Josyula, global head of GCC, Cognizant, among others, also spoke.
