CPIM-Srikakulam District Secretary D. Govinda Rao on Saturday, May 9, 2026, urged the Srikakulam Municipal Corporation to launch a special cleaning campaign along the garbage-ridden Nagavali river banks. Mr. Rao, Konari Mohana Rao, P. Tejeswara Rao, Ch. Ammannaidu and others formed a human chain as a form of protest on the riverbank near a bridge built across the Nagavali river. Alleging that contaminated water was being supplied to homes, Mr. Govinda Rao stated that Corporation officials were colluding with hospital managements, which reportedly dumped medical waste on the river banks and allowed drainage water to flow directly into the river.
