Left-wing commentator Ana Kasparian said this week:Young TurksRep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DY, responded to social media criticism with personal attacks following a public debate about X focused on U.S. policy toward Israel and a plot targeting activist Nerdeen Kiswani.

Kasparian framed the backlash as emblematic of a broader pattern, comparing it to rhetoric often associated with President Donald Trump.

“He responded to me and showed that he gives Trump-like responses to members of the media who dare to challenge him,” Kasparian said.

Kasparian pointed to a post Ocasio-Cortez published on X that directly responded to her criticism; where the representative wrote that he “never” supported the claim and accused Kasparian of lying to get attention.

“I never did. Feel free to continue lying publicly though. These checks don’t cash themselves and you are not skilled enough to be relevant to the truth,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.

The meeting began after Ocasio-Cortez issued a statement addressing a reported assassination plot, condemning the incident as political violence and confirming the suspect had been arrested.

“This is a reprehensible act of political violence. There is no place for it in our city or our country,” Ocasio-Cortez said. he said. “I am grateful that Ms. Kiswani is safe and her attacker has been arrested.”

Kasparian said his response to that post was intentionally sarcastic and intended to highlight what he described as inconsistencies in Ocasio-Cortez’s record on funding Israel.

“You should vote to send more money to Israel for weapons,” Kasparian said. Wrote back to X.

While Kasparian explained that his criticism stemmed from his frustration with Ocasio-Cortez’s broader approach to foreign policy and Democratic Party politics, he also addressed Ocasio-Cortez’s accusation that she misrepresented her voting record.

“I’m tired of AOC being incredibly weak at things she shouldn’t be weak at,” Kasparian said. “If I find out I was wrong… it would be embarrassing and I would like to correct that mistake, but I didn’t make a mistake. He lied.”

Kasparian later cited the 2021 House vote on additional funding for Israel’s Iron Dome system as a key example that shaped his view, arguing that pressure from the Democratic leadership influenced the outcome of that vote.

“Initially, AOC was on the right side…she was going to vote no,” Kasparian said. “Nancy Pelosi… is pressuring her to change her vote and guess what, AOC changed her vote from no to now.”

AOC ACCUSED ISRAEL OF GENOCIDE IN GERMANY, WHERE THE GENOCIDE STARTED, WHICH CAUSED A DISCOUNT

Citing footage from the House chamber during the 2021 vote for additional Iron Dome funding, Kasparian noted that Ocasio-Cortez was visibly emotional after changing her vote from “no” to “present”; he argued that this move reflected political pressure from the Democratic leadership.

“He was clearly visibly upset… he later confirmed that he was, in fact, tearful,” Kasparian said.

Kasparian argued that the vote change, which followed the initial objection to funding, diminished the importance of opposition within the Democratic party and reflected a broader willingness to defer to party leadership.

“Nobody can force you to change your vote,” Kasparian said. “You changed your vote because you were subjected to some pressure, and because you cast your current vote you effectively rendered your vote useless. Bowing to the likes of Nancy Pelosi shows a devastating level of weakness.”
