‘Cringeworthy’ Canada coach Jesse Marsch is slammed for bizarre comment during post-match TV interview after his team crashed out of the World Cup
Canada head coach Jesse Marsch is being mercilessly mocked by football fans after making a bizarre comment following his team’s elimination from the World Cup.
Canada’s men’s national team exited the 2026 tournament on Saturday afternoon following a brutal 3-0 defeat against Morocco.
Despite being eliminated from the competition, Marsch gave a post-match interview and claimed that he would rather be in his position than Morocco’s.
“What a privilege it is for our fans to support a team like this,” Marsch said in a viral on-air interview with FOX Sports.
‘[A team] A team that follows the game, does not play defensively, and shows that they can be better.
“Of course we have to face these situations more and more,” the 52-year-old executive continued. ‘And then we have to find ways to be successful and build on that.’

‘I’m really proud of our guys, we went after the game. “They are suffering right now, but I couldn’t be more proud,” he concluded, and lastly told the reporter, “I thank Canada.”
This bold statement spread quickly on social media and fans were left completely baffled by the American coach’s refusal to accept the reality of the 3-0 scoreline.
Viewers at X flooded the comments sections to roast the manager for his perceived lack of self-awareness.
“Impressive how he continues to make himself look like such a fool every time he steps in front of the microphone,” one viewer wrote.
Another fan questioned the coach’s logic and pointed out the obvious gap in the scoreboard: “I’d rather be us than them.” But you’re behind…”
A third user called out the manager and wrote: ‘I’ve heard some stupid post-match comments from a coach but I’m not sure I’ve heard anything that compares to Jesse Marsch saying ‘I’d rather be us than them’. ‘I can’t even process it.’
Other commentators questioned how he planned to maintain his position with the national team after the disastrous exit.
‘What?! “Either he’s saying anything to protect his job, or he’s as bad as advertised, or… both haha,” said one stunned supporter.

Given the July 4 holiday, many American fans also took the opportunity to get away from the American-born coach.
‘Happy 4th of July to us, did we cancel his passport too? “He could stay there forever,” one USMNT supporter joked.
This harsh assessment came after coach Marsch slammed the door on the possibility of taking charge of his country’s football team.
“People like to say, ‘Oh, I wish he’d coached the national team,'” he said in an interview with Time Magazine. “Let me be clear: I will never coach the U.S. national team,” Marsch said. “On and on. And that’s okay.”
‘There was a possibility it could be mine at one point, but I’m done with it now. I don’t even care anymore. I do not want ill will towards the USA. I want the USA to do well.
‘I love Pochettino and many players. But in the US, people need to stop making deals with me.’
