Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid slammed the NBA’s decision to fine him $50,000 for an “immoral gesture” he made during the team’s 109-108 loss to the Boston Celtics.

Embiid took a shot when he was fouled in the first quarter on Friday night. He made the shot and appeared to celebrate the trademark “groin chop” made famous in WWE during the height of the “Attitude Era.”

The NBA fined the center on Sunday, and he didn’t seem too pleased.

“You better start fining referees for making the ‘lewd’, ‘foul blocking’ move because I’m not allowed to do that,” he wrote in a post on X.

He later posted a GIF of an NBA official making an energetic signal to signal a blocking foul in an unrelated game.

Embiid has been known to make a “crotch slash” gesture while celebrating in games in the past. So much so that the WWE group, which has been at the peak of the 76ers’ success in recent years, attracted professional wrestling legend Paul Leveque from D-Generation X to the Xfinity Arena.

The loss against the Celtics was the 76ers’ first loss this season.

Embiid, who struggled with injuries in the 2024-25 season, averaged 17.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season.
