Crying Mets star Bo Bichette looked like a guy second-guessing his move from Toronto to Queens

Infielder Bo Bichette, one of the Mets’ top acquisitions this past offseason, quickly became a part of the Amazins’ terrible year.

Last season, Bichette helped lead Toronto to the World Series. Now, he’s stuck at the bottom of the NL East and dealing with a dysfunctional front office that recently fired coach Carlos Mendoza.

In Toronto, as the road-weary Mets open a three-game series against his former team on Monday, Bichette was asked what returning to Rogers Center means to him.

And the waterworks began.

Speaking to reporters, Bichette said he gave Toronto “everything he had.”

He added, “I don’t know what to expect… I gave everything I had… I hope it’s appreciated.”

While the Mets’ season was accelerating despite the additions of Bichette and Juan Soto, former cornerstones Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo were gone.

With Mendoza out, frustrated Mets fans increasingly turned their attention to President of Baseball Operations David Stearns, whose offseason overhaul produced more questions than wins.

Things had to go right in Queens. The acquisition of Bichette was seen as the Mets’ reaction after watching the Dodgers take advantage of free agency once again by signing Kyle Tucker… though Tucker isn’t exactly a fan of Chavez either.

Bichette was a two-time All-Star in Toronto.

During the Blue Jays’ World Series run, Bichette batted .348 with a .444 on-base percentage despite battling a season-ending knee injury. Shohei Ohtani’s three-run blast in Game 7 put Toronto on the brink of its first title, but the Dodgers broke the Blue Jays’ hearts in extra innings.

Bichette later signed a three-year, $126 million contract with the Mets. He threw his chips at Queens, but the baseball gods landed in black. (We’ve all been there, Bo.)

This moment will probably rub some Mets fans the wrong way.

Once again, Dodgers fans were able to forgive Freddie Freeman for getting emotional about his time in Atlanta. Mets fans need to be able to do the same.
