Cubs great Anthony Rizzo snags another home run ball in Wrigley Field bleachers
What are the odds of a former Major League player hitting a home run while sitting in the stands at the old ballpark?
It’s probably pretty low, but it happened twice to former Chicago Cub Anthony Rizzo.
The possibilities seem so astronomical that you’ll have to get someone at NASA to figure them out for you.

In the bottom of the first inning against the Minnesota Twins, Cubs’ first baseman Michael Busch sent an 0-1 pitch from Twins righty Taj Bradley into the right field stands, where a group of fans tried to get their hands on the bid.
But the person who invented it was the Cubs’ first baseman who broke the curse in 2016.

Like I said, it seems almost impossible for this to happen once, but the same thing happened to Rizzo in another game at Wrigley last season.
It was nice of Rizzo to switch jerseys, so we know these homers happened on different days. It would have been nice if he had held up that day’s newspaper just to make it concrete.
This confuses me, and I guess it means we all have to watch Anthony Rizzo’s home run (or, more accurately, take-off) fit. At his current clip of one home run per season, he’s aiming to move up to No. 3 next season.

Rizzo was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2007 and made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres in 2011.

But of course, it was the ten seasons he spent in Chicago (including being part of the 2016 World Series team) that his career is most remembered for.
He was traded to the New York Yankees in 2021 and played his final MLB season in 2024.
