Customers at major UK supermarket overcharged this week – check receipts | UK | News

A technical glitch has resulted in customers being overcharged for shopping at one of the UK’s biggest supermarket chains. Customers in the UK were charged incorrect fees for online grocery purchases earlier this week due to a technical error at Sainsbury’s. The problem meant Sainsbury’s Nectar Card prices were not charged; This meant that Nectar cardholders did not receive the promised lower prices. Instead they would pay the full price.

Sainsbury’s said it had contacted all customers affected by this error. Customers can check their online receipts to see if they were incorrectly charged for online grocery purchases. Sainsbury’s said the glitch occurred overnight on Tuesday. A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “We are sorry that a brief technical glitch overnight on Tuesday meant Nectar Prices were not applied correctly to some online orders on Wednesday.”

“The issue was resolved quickly and we are contacting all affected customers to ensure they are not left out of pocket.”

Customers shared their complaints about the issue online. Writing on Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert online forum, one customer said he realized how much he had been charged when reviewing his final cost.

“I placed an online grocery order with Sainsbury’s yesterday for an estimated total of £82.40. They wrote: “After exchanges and one missing item my bill should have been about the same but I was actually charged £102.34.

After going through everything line by line, I found that more than 10 items were priced at higher prices than shown at the time of ordering. Nectar prices are not kept, substitutions increase costs (fair enough – but that’s not the main problem), [and] Multiple purchase items charged at full price rather than discounted price.

They urged other shoppers to check their receipts, look for missing Nectar card discounts and contact Sainsbury’s if something doesn’t match.

Another shared: “So today the nectar price wasn’t added to the purchase, I got an email about the refund and it’s less than it should be!”
