Men start more arguments than women

Men are much more likely to initiate arguments than women.

The study, led by scientists from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, found that men were “significantly” more likely to initiate direct aggression, especially in mixed-sex couples.

But women have also proven ready to retaliate when a conflict begins.

Lead author Annah McCurry said: “It is important to understand why some people are more aggressive than others.

“But we also need to know why the same person might be the aggressor in one situation but not another. We found that women are more likely to retaliate with aggression rather than initiate it.”

The research shows that players can “GO!” It involved 104 participants who were paired for the Competitive Reaction Time Task, a psychological test in which participants race to press a button after seeing the word “Reaction Time”.

Winners were allowed to shout loudly at the loser for 5, 10, or 15 seconds.

After 30 rounds, males consistently chose higher volumes than females, regardless of pairing. Aggression levels remained high even after short breaks.

The findings show that men are the main instigators of conflicts, while women’s aggression tends to be reactive rather than pre-planned.
