Cyclone Ditwah: 177 people stranded in Sri Lanka return to Tamil Nadu, State government to send relief

A total of 177 people stranded in Sri Lanka’s Ditwah cyclone returned to Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning, November 30, 2025.
Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday announced that the Tamil Nadu government is ready to join the Government of India in extending relief measures to the neighboring island nation where the cyclone has left a huge devastation in its wake.
“Neighboring Sri Lanka has witnessed a major disaster due to cyclone Ditwah. The people of Sri Lanka are suffering, more than a hundred people have died and many regions have been severely affected. Expressing their deep condolences to those who died in the natural disaster, the people of Tamil Nadu stand with the people of Sri Lanka who are suffering greatly,” Mr. Stalin said in a statement.
In his statement, Mr. Stalin said that a total of 177 people, including 60 women and 4 children, who were stranded in Sri Lanka, were brought to Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning. “Tamil Nadu government is ready to lend a helping hand to the people of Sri Lanka affected by cyclone Ditwah by providing relief materials, including food and medicine,” Mr. Stalin said.

The Prime Minister said he has instructed Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam to constitute a committee of officials to coordinate with the Government of India for the extension of relief measures to the people of Sri Lanka.
