Cyprus talks to UAE over European subsea cable project, president says
On Monday, confirming his commitment to the project, he approached the United Arab Emirates for possible cooperation on a submarine power cable financed by the EU connecting Europe to the Eastern Mediterranean region on Monday.
European prosecutors said last Thursday that they launched an investigation into possible criminal offenses about 1.9 billion euros ($ 2.2 billion) cable to connect Greece with Cyprus and Israel.
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, in his statement to journalists, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, who called on Cyprus to clarify his views on the subject, said, “To explain that they visit the United Arab Emirates,” he said.
He continued: “I met with the President of the country to discuss this issue exactly and to take into account the possibility of a common partnership.
Christodoulides did not comment on the European investigation announced last week.
The cable is being built by IPTO, a Greek transmission operator, who took over from a Cypriot -based operator working on the project for nearly ten 2023.
The project supporters say the connection will be 1,240 km (770.5 miles) and the world’s longest high -voltage cable at 3,000 meters.
Cyprus has repeatedly sought explanations about any obligation for the total cost, applicability and unpredictable delays of the project.
