Mr Kinahan, who is in his 40s, was arrested on a warrant issued by the Irish courts in relation to allegations of serious organized crime.
Dubai Police said they arrested ‘an Irish fugitive who allegedly played a role in an international organized crime network’.
Irish police say they are aware of the arrest of an Irish national in the United Arab Emirates.
“The male, aged in his late 40s, was arrested on a warrant issued by the Irish courts in relation to alleged serious organized crime offences,” Garda said in a statement on Friday. he said.
They added that the arrest ‘remains a matter for authorities in the United Arab Emirates at this time’.
Kinahan, the alleged leader of the Kinahan organized crime group, has been named in Irish courts as the head of one of Europe’s most prominent drug gangs.
Dubai Police said the arrest took place on April 15. They said Kinahan, who had lived in the UAE for more than a decade, was arrested within 48 hours of an arrest warrant being issued by the Irish government.

Garda said ‘the arrest is an extremely important demonstration of the need for international law enforcement cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime’.
Dubai Police said in a statement: ‘Dubai Police, in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Internal Affairs, arrested an Irish fugitive for his role in an international organized crime network.
‘The arrest took place as part of efforts to combat cross-border crime.
‘The arrest follows the receipt of a criminal file from Irish authorities detailing the suspect’s alleged crimes and involvement in an international criminal organisation.
‘Based on the file, the Dubai Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant to initiate legal procedures ahead of his extradition.
‘Specialist teams immediately launched intensive search and surveillance operations, ensuring the suspect was captured within 48 hours after the arrest warrant was issued.
‘Dubai Police confirmed the arrest took place on 15 April; This reflects the force’s rapid response and operational preparedness to handle international incidents.’
The arrest was made in accordance with the bilateral agreement on extradition between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.
The Garda statement said: ‘Garda Siochana remained steadfast in our determination to pursue those alleged to be involved in serious organized criminal activity wherever they go.
‘Today’s arrest is an extremely important demonstration of the need for international law enforcement cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime.
‘An Garda Siochana has developed many important international partnerships in our efforts to target transnational organized crime groups.
‘Our relations with the authorities in the United Arab Emirates, with the Ministry of Justice at the judicial level and among the police are valuable.
‘This relationship is supported by the Irish Government Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Immigration and the Department of Foreign Affairs.’
