Daughter of missing American in Bahamas cites ‘prior issues,’ seeks probe

FIRST ON FOX: The woman, the daughter of a missing American in the Bahamas, learned of “previous troubles” and called for a full investigation into the disappearance of her mother, who authorities said fell from the boat she was on.

Bahamian authorities said that 55-year-old Lynette Hooker and her husband, 58-year-old Brian Hooker, left Hope Town’s Abaco Inn on a small boat around 7:30 pm on Saturday and headed towards their yacht, where the couple planned to go to Elbow Cay.

While the couple was heading towards their yacht in the 2-meter boat, Lynette Hooker fell off the boat with her ignition key, causing the engine to shut off, authorities said. The current carried Lynette Hooker away, and Brian Hooker rowed to a marina in Marsh Harbor, where he reported his wife missing around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Lynette Walker’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, called for a thorough investigation in a statement to Fox News Digital on Tuesday. Aylesworth’s biological father is not Brian Hooker.

“There were issues that had previously come to my attention that could be important to a thorough investigation. If this was truly an accident, I can understand and live with that,” Aylesworth said. “However, before this can be determined, an intensive examination of the facts and circumstances surrounding this tragic event is required.”

“While the Royal Bahamian police investigate this matter, I would welcome any intervention by federal, state or local authorities to examine the circumstances of this tragic situation,” he added.

Aylesworth said he had “very little information” and added that his “only concern is to find out what happened to my mother and to make sure there is a full and complete investigation into her disappearance.”

Fox News Digital reached out to U.S. federal authorities, as well as local and state officials in Michigan, where the couple lives.

Authorities have not said whether Lynette Hooker was wearing a life jacket when she allegedly fell from the small boat.

The couple is quite active on social media and often shows off their yachts. Her latest Instagram posts were posted Friday afternoon, showcasing a small boat and saying, “Aren’t you going anywhere for a while?!” It was made with the title.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force, along with the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and Hope Town Fire and Rescue, are investigating the woman’s disappearance.

Due to crime, the U.S. State Department currently says the Bahamas is under a level 2 travel advisory and urges Americans to “exercise greater caution” due to crime, beach safety, jet skiing and boating.

“We are aware of reports of a missing American near Elbow Cay in the Abacos in the Bahamas and are working with Bahamian authorities to provide assistance,” a State Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The Department of State stated that boat transportation in the Bahamas is not well regulated and that “injuries and deaths have occurred.”
