Washington’s Democratic socialist mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis called for the release and pardon of George’s right-hand man, assassin Luigi Mangione, according to a Threads account.
Mangione has received support in the months since his arrest, including donations of more than $1.5 million to fund his powerful defense team.
Makia Green describes herself as George’s political director in a post In practice in May.
In the days after the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, his suspected killer called for the release of Mangione.

The candidate ran for city council in 2020 and promised to “defund the police” in his ward. He also called for “free abortion care.” packing the Supreme Court and the removal of Judge Clarence Thomas.

Mangione is accused of following Thompson outside a Hilton hotel in Manhattan and shooting him in the back, then fleeing to Altoona, Pennsylvania, where he was arrested while eating breakfast at McDonald’s.

The accused assassin was supposed to appear in a New York court on Tuesday morning for the case, but his hearing was postponed a day due to confusion.
He is expected to appear in court Sept. 8 on state charges that carry a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
