In the early days of the fast food drive-thru, Rat Pack legend Dean Martin once totaled an expensive vintage car while trying to buy a burger for his girlfriend’s son.

Bing Crosby’s grandson, Phil Crosby Jr., told Fox News Digital that his mother is the “White Christmas” singer’s son, Phil Crosby Sr. She told how she dated and even got engaged to Martin – who always called her “kid” – after her “turbulent” marriage to.

“I was almost like Dean Martin’s stepson,” he said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. “I mean, if that were the case, I would have grown up with a silver spoon in my mouth, but it didn’t happen.”

Crosby said he was very young when his mother, Peggy Crosby, now 85, started seeing the “That’s Amore” singer after meeting him at a club where he worked following her short-lived marriage.

“And I guess my mother wasn’t really ready [to be married again]Crosby said of their eventual separation: “She was still a beautiful young woman. She’s still a very beautiful woman.”

He said Martin, who was 23 years older than his mother, was “very advanced in years” when they were dating.

Even though she was very young when she met Martin, she remembers him.

His best memory of the singer was that he once looked into his mother’s bedroom looking for her and Martin was there, asking him to buy a pack of cigarettes.

My only real memory of him was a little too stereotypical, Crosby said. “He used to call me ‘the kid’. And this is a true story. I was ‘The Kid’. ‘Where’s the kid?’ Even years later, when my mother bumped into him, I was ‘That kid’.”

Crosby said the singer asked him, “‘Hey, kid, you know, come down and get me some cigarettes.’ Because an adult of those times should be able to ask a kid that, and the kid should be doing it.”

But he said he was told Martin’s story about destroying his own classic car while trying to feed “The Kid.”

I don’t actually have this memory, but it’s a story I was told, and I call it the Stutz and the drive-thru because Dean had a Stutz. [Blackhawk]”Or Stutz Bearcat, I’m told,” Crosby said. “When I do research now, I see photos of him with Stutz. [Blackhawk]. “These were very large, vintage cars.”

He continued, “So Dean decides, ‘Well, the drive-thru is open at McDonald’s,’ and the drive-thru was probably pretty new at the time,” and said it took place around 1976 in Santa Monica, California.

Even though he never met his grandfather, Crosby said he still enjoyed many Crosby Christmas celebrations as a child.

“I grew up with a couple of my cousins and a couple of uncles… and I would see them on some holidays,” he said. “We had some great big holidays with a lot of Crosby’s. So I definitely had Crosby Thanksgivings and Crosby Christmases with Bing’s other sons and their wives and children. And I was very, very grateful and happy for that.”

Crosby is also releasing two holiday singles: a cover of a rarely heard Bing Crosby song called “A Time to be Jolly” and an original song called “Guess Who’s Coming Tonight.”

“This is a Christmas song that no one else has recorded,” Crosby said of “A Time to be Jolly.” “But it’s a fun song. It’s kind of stupid… I’ve never heard that before… You won’t find it done by Dean Martin or anyone else. So I hope people like it.”
