Decision on China mega embassy site in London delayed again

The decision on whether China’s application for a new super embassy in London will be approved has been postponed once again by the government.
Housing Minister Steve Reed was due to decide on the application by October 21, but the deadline has been postponed to December 10.
This is the second time the government has delayed a decision on the controversial site.
A decision was due on September 9 after ministers took control of the process from local council Tower Hamlets last year.
China bought the site of the proposed new embassy at the Royal Mint Court, near the Tower of London, for £255 million in 2018.
The proposed 20,000 square meter complex would be the largest embassy in Europe if it goes ahead.
But Beijing’s plans for a sprawling new embassy have fueled fears that its location close to London’s financial district could pose an espionage risk.
