The deep depression over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and southwestern Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Montha’, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its 25th bulletin issued at 02.24 am on Monday, October 27, 2025.
At 11.30 pm, the storm intensified over the southwestern and southeastern Bay of Bengal, approximately 640 km east-southeast of Chennai, 710 km southeast of Kakinada, 740 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam and 860 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha).

The storm moved west-northwestward at 16 km per hour over the last 3 hours at 2.30 am and concentrated over the same area located approximately 600 km east-southeast of Chennai, 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 710 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 790 km west of Port Blair and 850 km south of Gopalpur. in Odisha.
IMD, in its 3 am bulletin, said that the storm will continue to move towards the southwest and west-northwest of the Bay of Bengal over the next 12 hours and will intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm by the morning of October 28. The wind, continuing to move towards the north-northwest, is very likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph on the evening or night of October 28.
According to information received from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, rains started around Sunday night in several districts of Andhra Pradesh; While Prathipadu in Kakinada district received approximately 79.5 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am on October 26 and 6 am on October 27, according to information received from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Kurrapalle in SPSR Nellore district received 64.5 mm of rainfall and Chinnachepalle in YSR Kadapa received 41.5 mm of rainfall.
