Defamation case: Satyaki Savarkar moves Pune court seeking Rahul Gandhi’s voice samples

Pune: Satyaki Savarkar, nephew of Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar, has approached a local court to obtain voice samples of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the defamation case filed against him for his comments on the late revolutionary.

Satyaki’s lawyer Sangram Kolhatkar moved the application before Magistrate (First Class) (MP/MLA Special Court) AA Shinde on Tuesday.

The plea stated that he had presented evidence that would prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, but “for the proper determination of certain electronic recordings, voice samples of the accused (Rahul Gandhi) are indispensable evidence.”

Satyaki said the court should direct the accused to submit the voice samples to the competent authority and also asked the Forensic Science Laboratory officials to conduct a scientific analysis and compare the collected samples with the entries in the court records.

Satyaki Savarkar had filed a complaint with the magistrate in 2023, alleging that Rahul Gandhi, currently the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, in a speech in London had written in a book that VD Savarkar had stated that he and five to six of his friends had once beaten a Muslim man and claimed that he (Savarkar) felt happy.

The complaint stated that VD Savarkar never wrote this.
Meanwhile, lawyer Milind Pawar, representing Rahul Gandhi, began cross-examination of Satyaki Savarkar on Tuesday.
