Marking off the first batch of BrahMos missiles manufactured at the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility Center in Lucknow on Saturday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said BrahMos is not just a missile but also a symbol of the nation’s growing indigenous capabilities.
The Defense Minister, who jointly flagged off the BrahMos missiles with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, said that the BrahMos team had signed contracts worth nearly Rs 4,000 million with the two countries in just one month.
“In the coming years, we will see experts from other countries flocking to Lucknow and turning it into a knowledge hub and a leader in defense technology… The turnover of BrahMos’ Lucknow unit will be around Rs 3,000 billion from the next financial year… GST collection will be Rs 5.00 billion per annum,” he said.
Rajnath Singh praised Yogi Adityanath for the way he handled the law and order situation in the state and his support for the BrahMos project.
“Uttar Pradesh was once known for its ‘gunda raj’ and deteriorating law and order. People lived in fear. Investors were reluctant to come here. But today’s Uttar Pradesh has been transformed under the leadership of our Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath… The way he has handled the law and order of the state is exemplary in itself,” he said.
“This is not only a symbol of the strength of BrahMos and our armed forces, but also a message that Uttar Pradesh is ready to overcome any challenge… I cannot praise Yogi Adityanath’s wholehearted support in setting up this facility (BrahMos Lucknow Unit). I never had to worry about any shortcomings,” he added.
Rajnath Singh said that four BrahMos missiles were delivered to Dhanteras.
“Today we are celebrating Dhanteras and on this auspicious day, four BrahMos missiles were delivered. The government also receives a significant GST from this. Yogi ji ensured that this work also benefited the government of Uttar Pradesh… Today the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi showered not only on our security but also on our economy,” he said.
“With taxes collected from the production of just one missile, the government can build scores of schools, expand hospitals and implement schemes that directly improve the lives of the common man,” he added.
Rajnath Singh also recalled Operation Sindoor, in which BrahMos missiles played a crucial role.
“What happened in Operation Sindoor was just a trailer. But this trailer made Pakistan realize that if India can give birth to Pakistan, I don’t need to say anything more about what else it can do,” he said.
BrahMos facility stands as one of the most important projects under the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor. It carries out the entire assembly, integration and testing process according to the highest technical standards. With the dispatch of the first consignment of missiles, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a key partner in the national ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ initiative. The Lucknow unit is the first in the corridor to leverage both strategic autonomy and industrial growth by managing the entire manufacturing and testing process locally.
