Accused in 2012 Pune blasts case shot dead

Bunty Jahagirdar, one of the accused in the 2012 Pune serial blasts case, was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants in Shrirampur town in Ahilyanagar district on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, police said.

Jahagirdar, who is in his mid-50s, was returning from a cemetery on Borawake College Road when he was attacked by two men on a bicycle, along with another person on a two-wheeler, at around 2pm.

Ahilyanagar Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge said that the man suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The reason behind the attack is yet to be determined. Multiple teams have been formed to investigate the incident and investigation is ongoing,” Mr. Gharge said.

Jahagirdar was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for his alleged involvement in the serial blast incident on Jangli Maharaj Road.

On August 1, 2012, four coordinated low-intensity explosions rocked the busy thoroughfare in the heart of Pune at locations near the Balgandharva Theatre, a Dena Bank branch, a McDonald’s store and the Garware Bridge.

Police said Jahagirdar has multiple criminal cases against him in Ahilyanagar district, including murder, bodily offenses and criminal intimidation.

He had been out on bail since 2023 in the bomb attack case.
