Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive for 14-year-old girls from Ajmer in Rajasthan on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The campaign against cervical cancer officially started with a program held in Ajmer’s Kayad, where the vaccine was administered to a large number of girls. The Prime Minister also interacted with the beneficiaries at the event.
According to officials, the single-dose “Gardasil 4” vaccine, which is a quadrivalent HPV vaccine, will be used within the scope of the campaign. The injection protects against HPV types 16 and 18, as well as types 6 and 11, which are responsible for cervical cancer.
“All 14-year-old girls across the country will be administered single dose ‘Gardasil 4’ vaccine at government healthcare facilities including Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Primary Health Centres), Community Health Centres, district and district hospitals and government medical colleges and hospitals,” the Union Health Ministry said in an official letter sent to all States on February 25. The statement was included.
