Delaware State Trooper Killed in Shooting at Wilmington DMV

A Delaware state trooper was killed during a shooting at the Division of Motor Vehicles building on Tuesday, authorities said.

Delaware State Police said they responded to an active shooter situation at a DMV location in Wilmington. Authorities later said a suspect was in custody and there was no longer an active shooting incident.

“It has been confirmed that a Delaware State Trooper was killed during this incident,” Trooper wrote to X. “We continue to evaluate additional injuries.”

Delaware Governor Matt Meyer said the attacker was also killed.

“We are closely monitoring the situation at the DMV in New Castle and I want to be clear that there is no active threat to the public at this time,” he wrote to X. “Law enforcement quickly took action to secure the scene and the shooter was confirmed dead.”

He said state and local authorities were at the scene.

Authorities did not provide details about what happened or the identities of the police and the suspect.

U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del., said she was informed of the issue and offered her prayers to those involved.

“I pray for everyone affected, including our brave law enforcement officers. I continue to stay in touch with state officials as we all learn more,” he wrote on social media.

The Ministry of Justice told FoxPhiladelphia He said U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wallace sent prosecutors to assist in the investigation.

All DMV locations statewide were closed Tuesday following the attack.
