Delhi IYC Takes Down Posters Targeting Rahul Ahead of Oppn Meet

New Delhi: The Delhi Youth Congress on Monday removed posters targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that were seen in various parts of the national capital ahead of the important meeting of the INDIA bloc in the city.
The hoardings displayed at prominent roundabouts and public places featured statements about Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party attributed to leaders of various opposition parties, including NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
Most statements targeted the Congress or Rahul Gandhi.
Describing the campaign as an attempt to create discord within the alliance, IYC state president Akshay Lakra claimed that the posters were part of a politically motivated exercise.
“These are cheap political tactics used by the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and some other elements. Delhi Youth Congress will not tolerate such below-the-belt politics. If anyone tries to create divisions within the INDIA bloc or engages in such provocative actions, we will respond appropriately and in the language they understand,” Lakra said.
A hoarding installed near the Constitution Club had photographs of Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar and alleged that Gandhi lacked consistency.
Another displayed a photo of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan along with a quote and claimed that Rahul Gandhi, despite being a national leader, “lacks the political savvy commonly found among ordinary Congress workers”.
Delhi Youth Congress workers removed the posters from many places, including Parliament Circle, near the Press Club and at Windsor Place intersection.
Lakra also said, “We have already removed the posters and banners put up in Parliament Square, near the Press Club and at the Windsor Square junction. This should be treated as a warning. Any attempt to spread confusion, create differences between alliance partners or target the Congress by such methods will be met with an appropriate response from the Youth Congress.” he said.
The posters were revealed ahead of a meeting of leaders of the INDIA bloc in the national capital.
Addressing the meeting, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge urged opposition parties to strengthen their unity to face the political, economic, social and foreign policy challenges facing the country due to the “mismanagement” of the Modi government.
Kharge alleged that the attack on the Constitution continues and investigative institutions are used as tools to harass, intimidate and target political opponents.
