Delhi makes 2-day work from home mandatory for government employees

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced mandatory two-day work-from-home work a week for government employees, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to take measures to save fuel.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “At the government level, Delhi Government offices will observe working from home for two days every week. Similarly, private companies and institutions will also be advised to implement working from home for two days a week. This will be a recommendation and the Ministry of Labor will monitor its implementation.”

Additionally, the official petrol and diesel quota for civil servants’ vehicles will be reduced by 20 percent, while ministers and government officials will be required to use the metro every Monday.
At a meeting in Secunderabad, Prime Minister Modi on Sunday urged citizens to prioritize working from home, reduce fuel consumption, avoid traveling abroad for a year, adopt Swadeshi products, reduce use of edible oil, switch to natural farming and restrict gold purchases.

To combat fluctuations in fuel prices, Prime Minister Modi has called for a change in India’s course of action. He asked citizens to reduce gasoline and diesel consumption by using the metro and public transportation wherever possible, to prefer car sharing when a private vehicle is required, to prefer railway transportation for the transportation of goods, and to increase the use of electric vehicles wherever possible.
