Delhi Police on High Alert Ahead of Hanuman Jayanti Processions

New Delhi: Delhi Police is on high alert as several Hindu organizations held ceremonies to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti in Uttam Nagar and Jahangirpuri on Thursday. Heavy security forces have been deployed in both areas to maintain law and order, a senior police officer said.

In Uttam Nagar, the increased regulations come after a 26-year-old man was killed in the area on March 4 following a clash between his family and neighbors at JJ Colony during Holi celebrations.

The incident triggered tensions in the region, with an angry mob damaging vehicles and setting some on fire, resulting in heavy police deployment for a week.

The violence broke out when water from a balloon thrown by a girl from Tarun’s family splashed on a woman from a neighboring household. So far, 16 people, including two children, have been arrested and detained.

Earlier, the Delhi Police carried out an intense flag march and cycle patrol exercise in the northwestern district ahead of Hanuman Jayanti, an officer said.

Officials added that considering the violence in the region during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in 2022, in which many people, including police personnel, were injured in stone-throwing and arson, an Aman Committee meeting was held in Jahangirpuri to ensure communal harmony ahead of the festival.

“Surveillance has been increased through CCTV cameras, drones and local intelligence inputs. Barricades have been placed at key locations and area dominance exercises and flag marches are being conducted to build confidence among residents,” police said. he said.

Covering key areas of the region, with officers maintaining a strong presence on major roads and sensitive areas, the aim of the operation was to strengthen security arrangements and increase public confidence in the festival.
