Marathahalli police arrested a 22-year-old delivery manager of Flipkart for allegedly breaking into a woman’s house on the pretext of using the toilet and then flashing herself to her.
The accused has been identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath. He was arrested in connection with the incident, which came to light after the victim shared his ordeal and video footage of the confrontation on social media, triggering widespread anger.
According to the woman’s complaint, the delivery driver had come to her apartment to deliver a package and asked for permission to use the restroom. He refused, explaining that he lived alone, and asked her to use the toilet at the neighboring house instead. However, it was alleged that the defendant ignored the woman’s refusal, took off her shoes and forced his way into the apartment while trying to close the door.
Believing he might be dealing with a real emergency, she allowed him to proceed. She later claimed the delivery driver brutally assaulted her after she left the toilet next to her bedroom, leaving her “shocked, raped, humiliated and completely unsafe” in her own home.
Fearing for her safety, the woman turned on her mobile phone’s camera, kept the apartment door open, and remained at the entrance to escape or ask for help if necessary. He then confronted the suspect and said he would file a complaint with the police. The man allegedly fled the building through the stairs as the woman followed him into the elevator, videotaping the interaction.
In her social media post, the woman questioned whether e-commerce companies adequately verify the CVs of delivery personnel and said that the incident traumatized her.
Based on his complaint, Marathahalli police registered a case and subsequently arrested the accused. It is protected under Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) and 329(2) (criminal trespass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Flipkart spokesperson said that they immediately terminated the involvement of the respective delivery partner. “All delivery partners undergo background verification and mandatory training before being hired. While such incidents are extremely rare, even a single incident of this type is unacceptable. We are thoroughly reviewing the matter to determine whether any additional measures could further strengthen our customer safety processes,” the statement said.
