Land-for-job ‘scam’: Delhi court defers order on framing charges against Lalu Yadav, others
Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogne directed the CBI to submit a status report after verifying the status of the accused in the case. Four of the 103 defendants in the case died.
Judge Gogne sent the matter for further proceedings on December 8.
The CBI had filed a chargesheet against Lalu Yadav, his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi, their sons and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav and others in connection with the alleged scam.
The prosecution alleged that the appointments in the Group D category of the Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh-based Railways’ West Central Zone were made in exchange for land parcels gifted or transferred by recruits on behalf of the RJD chief’s family or associates during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as railway minister from 2004 to 2009.
The CBI also alleged that the appointments were made against norms and the transactions involved benami properties, amounting to criminal misappropriation and conspiracy.
The defendants denied the accusations, claiming that the case was politically motivated.
