Denmark’s former queen Margrethe admitted to hospital

Margrethe, 86, the former queen of Denmark, was hospitalized with heart problems, the royal court said.

“His Majesty is tired but in good spirits,” the court said in a statement.

The palace said the problem was caused by “heart spasm”.

Danish news agency Ritzau reported that Margrethe suffered from angina pectoris, which usually manifests as chest pain and is caused by blockage of the arteries that feed the heart muscle.

It was also stated that the queen, who abdicated in 2024 and handed over the throne to her first son Frederik, will stay in the hospital over the weekend for observation and further tests.

According to the statement, Margrethe will stay at the Rigshospitalet university hospital in Copenhagen throughout the weekend to undergo observation and further tests.

Margrethe celebrated her 86th birthday on April 16.
