Deporting neo-Nazi Matthew Gruter is a funny, terrible idea

After news broke of the deportation of South African Matthew Gruter, a Sydney-based National Socialist Network member currently considering his options at Villawood Detention Centre, my favorite reaction came from my own home: “This is what he would have wanted ❤️”.

This sentiment reflects the grinning ambivalence I felt about Gruter’s sudden departure. So do I think deporting a neo-Nazi is a good development? Or is it a problematic situation? To help explain my situation, let me first describe what happened to Gruter in the order it happened.
