Deputy FM Of Iran Gharibabadi Likely To Attend BRICS In India

Teheran : According to Iranian sources, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi is expected to visit India to attend the BRICS Summit to be held in the capital.

India holds the BRICS chairmanship this year and will host the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting on May 14-15.

Russia announced on April 29 that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov would visit India to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting.

In a post about X, the Ministry of External Affairs said that he will be in India between May 14-15.

The event will provide a valuable platform for comprehensive discussions on current international issues and prospects for strengthening global governance, TASS reported, citing Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

“On May 14-15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend the full-format meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in New Delhi,” he said.

TASS, citing Zakharova, reported that the event, which will be chaired by India, will provide a valuable platform for comprehensive discussions on current international issues and prospects for strengthening global governance, especially in relation to countries representing the global majority.

“Special attention will be paid to developing strategic partnerships in preparation for the 18th BRICS summit, which is also scheduled to take place in New Delhi in September,” he added.

Zakharova said that foreign ministers of BRICS partner countries will participate in various sessions during the meeting. He also stated that a full-format bilateral program, including meetings with his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar, is also planned during Lavrov’s visit to New Delhi.

“The talks are expected to cover the full scope of bilateral relations, including the schedule of upcoming contacts at the highest, highest and working levels. Special attention will be paid to preparing for meetings of the intergovernmental Russia-India commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation. The entire mutually beneficial agenda will also be reviewed,” Zakharova said. he said.

Meanwhile, the BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Representatives for the Middle East and North Africa (BRICS MENA) meeting was held in the national capital on 23-24 April and exchanged views on current regional developments.

BRICS brings together eleven major emerging markets and developing countries in the world: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. It serves as a useful platform for consultation and cooperation on contemporary issues of global as well as regional importance and problems of global political and economic governance.

India, which chairs the 2026 BRICS Presidency, is guided by the theme of “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainability” expressed by the Prime Minister at the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025, reflecting a people-centered and humanity-first approach.
