Deputy speaker Nusrat Ghani scolds Labour over early Budget briefings | News

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament condemned the government for making extensive speeches to the media in the weeks when the budget was to be announced.
Addressing MPs before Rachel Reeves begins her speech on Wednesday (November 26), Nusrat Ghani criticized the “disappointing” extensive media briefings over the past few weeks, which she described as “unprecedented”.
Referring to the OBR leaks, which occurred an hour before the Chancellor’s speech, he said: “These all fall short of the standards that the House expects.”
Reminding the government that announcements should be made in the chamber before they are given to the media, she said: “Like many, I expected better.”
