Detective hit with stalking, violence and sex offences

A police officer in Queensland has been charged with a string of serious domestic violence offences, including harassment and sexual assault allegedly committed over many years.

Some of the crimes were allegedly committed while the plainclothes detective was on duty.

The 36-year-old senior detective police officer was first charged with a domestic violence-related harassment charge in March.

Following further investigation, the man was rearrested on Monday and charged with a number of additional offences.

The new charges include two counts of stalking, two counts of common assault, one count of dangerous conduct with a weapon, one count of entering a dwelling to commit a domestic violence offence, one count of deprivation of liberty and one count of sexual assault.

The officer was also charged with two counts of hacking and exploiting, two counts of distributing prohibited recordings and one count of distributing private images.

The man was a member of the state’s Crime Command, which carries out serious and organized crime investigations.

He has been suspended from duty and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The matter remains under investigation by the Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command under the supervision of the Crime and Corruption Commission.
