‘Devastated’: Parents break silence as childcare worker Arvind Ajay Singh jailed for abusing young girl

The family of a teenage girl abused by a childcare worker say they are “devastated”; The monster who preyed on their little girl will only serve a few months in prison before being deported.

Arvind Ajay Sing, 43, pleaded not guilty to charges of digitally raping a child at a child care center in Queensland in 2022.

Even after he was accused of rape, Singh’s visa was cancelled, but he remained in Australia until 2025, when he was sent back to Fiji ahead of his court date.

Speaking to A Current Affair, Singh’s mother, who was found guilty of abuse, said bringing him to justice had been a “long” and painful process for the family.

“What he put our daughter through was absolutely disgusting,” the victim’s father told A Current Affair.

“It’s been going on for four years and we’ve been in limbo the whole time.

“This didn’t happen in a park or a dark alley, this happened in a daycare. A place where young children are supposed to be safe.”

“It’s not like she snuck out the back door or got on a boat and left the country and someone stamped her papers and let the rape suspect out the front door.”

The program reports that Singh voluntarily returned to Queensland in February to face trial on the charges.

The jury found Singh not guilty of rape, but guilty of indecent treatment of a child in his care.

A Current Affair reported that Singh was sentenced to 20 months in prison and half of the sentence will be suspended.

After serving this period, he will be sent back to Fiji.

The victim’s father said the family was “absolutely devastated” by the outcome.

“I’m absolutely devastated. If I didn’t pay my taxes, I’d be even worse off,” the father told ACA.

The boy’s mother said: “We had to fight to get him off the street so he could never work with children again.”

“She is the most incredible, bravest little girl. The parents couldn’t be more proud.”
