GB News reporter brutally attacked by police in anti-migrant riot | UK | News

A GB News reporter found himself in the middle of a shocking incident as turbulent demonstrations gripped Dublin on Tuesday evening.
Dougie Beattie, a staff member for The People’s Channel, was reporting on the second night of protests outside a hotel in the capital when he and his crew were attacked by authorities trying to restore order.
‘We were attacked by the police too,’ Dougie tells GB News star
Dougie told GB News star Patrick Christys of the heartbreaking ordeal in a surprising revelation.
“We did what we usually do. We step between the lines and let the police cross the line,” he explained.
However, he said what happened next was a blatant abuse of power. “But Gardaí thought it would be better to pepper spray us and then hit the cameraman and then hit the camera and knock us to the ground.”
Veteran reporter stunned by unprecedented police brutality
Experienced journalist Dougie, who has covered many volatile situations in Northern Ireland, expressed disbelief at the actions of Gardaí.
“In all the time I’ve been doing this in Northern Ireland as a reporter, I’ve never seen these police attack the media. They did that tonight and another photographer too.”
He emphasized that the police officer made a “conscious” decision to target the press. The Express contacted the Irish Police and Security Service by email for comment.
Dublin plunged into chaos as 2000 protesters take to the streets
The streets of Dublin were thrown into turmoil, with approximately 2000 people participating in the demonstrations.
A police van was reduced to a charred husk as angry protesters descended on an immigration hotel following a shocking report alleging the rape of a 10-year-old boy. The Citywest Hotel in Dublin, Ireland, became the epicenter of violent clashes as shocking footage circulated on social media showing protesters waving flags and large crowds going head-to-head with overwhelmed police forces.
Sexual Assault Allegation of African Man and Young Irish Girl Sparks Outrage
The horrific clashes broke out just a day after a disturbing allegation emerged that an African man had sexually assaulted a teenage Irish girl. As the situation rapidly deteriorates, reports indicate that Irish police Gardai have withdrawn completely and a police van has fallen victim to the flames of anger amid rising tensions. A hotel seized by the Irish government to house refugees remains under siege for the second night in a row as protesters refuse to back down.
Protesters demand action against immigrants ahead of presidential election
Dougie painted a bleak picture of the scene and told Patrick: “It’s really started tonight in Dublin. A police car has burned, water cannons have gone off and the TSG themselves are having a hard time stopping it.”
At the heart of the protests is a growing sentiment among the Irish people.
“At this stage the Irish people said: ‘We want to get rid of the immigrants who are now here,'” Dougie said.
The timing of these demonstrations could not be more significant, as the country prepares to elect a new president on Friday. “This is not a good look for them right now,” he added.
Police accused of openly attacking media amid escalating violence
Dougie’s encounter with the riot shield-wielding police officer left him shaken and horrified.
“He pushed the camera into my face,” he recalled.
“This only happened after his colleague managed to push the person using the camera into a metal fence.” The Great Britain News team was singled out and targeted despite being clearly identified as media.
“They pepper-sprayed us, then they attacked us, they openly attacked us in the street while we were trying to report what was going on,” Dougie lamented.
Minister condemns violence, vows to protect peaceful protest
As a second night of protests in Dublin spiraled out of control, with a police van set on fire and journalists facing a shower of bottles, Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan spoke out against the violence.
“Unfortunately, it is not unexpected for people who want to sow dissent in our society to weaponise crime. Gardai are prepared for this, but attacking gardai and property is not a solution and will not help anyone feel safe,” he said.
O’Callaghan stressed that peaceful protests are the cornerstone of democracy, but violence will not be tolerated. “There can be no excuse for the scenes we witnessed tonight,” he said.
