Digitisation of aerospace industry needed to scale up, position India as global mfg hub: TAS chief

New Delhi, September 18 (PTI) numericalization, is extremely important for scaling and positioning the Indian aviation industry as a global production center.
At a symposium organized by the Quality Management Foundation (IFQM), India emphasized the need for Indian companies to absorb and build more technology instead of being constantly dependent on external technology, participating in a panel debate on researching strategies, opportunities and challenges in positioning India as a global center.
“Digitalization is extremely important. It is surprising that this industry, especially the aviation industry, is not digitized. You do not have digitized drawings. One is still dealing with quite old -fashioned drawings, because in many cases, the basic platform itself has been quite old and therefore has not been numericalized.”
Also, “That’s why we need to have a digitization approach in order to scal.” He said.
Emphasizing the need for scaling Agarwala, “It is not enough to make a few prototypes. But if we need to understand, how we scale things, not only one tejas is enough … It must be on a scale.”
Digitalization also stated that it will help the supply chain “doing things on a scale” process.
Agarwala also drew attention to the need for Indian companies in the sector to absorb and build global technology and build more.
“This is a global effort because we buy or buy technology. We bring technology, but our ability to suck technology and then build more … I’m not really sure whether we do a good job to suck the technology that we have ever come to us or developed.”
