The Panchayat Union Primary School building in Ayyampatti, located in the Tiruverumhur block of Tiruchi Region, is in a dangerous situation by creating serious concerns about the safety of its students and staff.

The school, which was built in 1962, once pulled students from the surrounding areas and had more than 60 power. However, in the last 15 years, school has seen a stable decline in student power. Currently, only seven students have been recorded – four in class 3, two in class 1 and one in class 4 – Class 2 and 5 was not recorded.

The school is now working with only two classes, lack of a compound wall and do not have functional toilet facilities for students or teachers. The roof of the building is in poor condition and is prone to damage throughout the rain and is afraid that the structure between parents may collapse in heavy rain.

Many parents stopped sending their children to school. A few students have already moved to nearby private and state -backed schools. The lack of infrastructure led to the demands of the parents to rebuild the school. However, the action has not been taken in the last decade.

Recently, the officials from the school training department examined the school building and guaranteed that the existing building would be destroyed to the parents and that they had built a new structure containing two classes, one staff room and toilet facilities.

A senior official said that existing students would be shifted to the nearby Anganwadi Center and will take urgent measures to restructure the school.
