Former CPI(M) leader in Kerala booked for alleged sexual relations with woman on false marriage promise

A case has been registered against a former local CPI(M) leader at Ranni in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a woman for over two years on fake promises of marriage, police said on Friday.
The issue reportedly came to light when the 32-year-old woman reportedly attempted suicide after the accused allegedly went back on his promise to marry.
According to the police, the accused Alan Mathew had sexual intercourse with the woman several times since June 2024 after promising to marry her.
The officer said that when the woman became pregnant and realized that the accused would not marry her, she filed a complaint with the police.
When the police went to take her statement, she said that she only wanted to marry the defendant and did not want to file a lawsuit.
The official said that the defendant also applied for a registered marriage and the date for this was set as March 23. However, the officer said that he recently went back on his promise and the woman attempted suicide on March 18.
His statement was later recorded and an FIR was registered against Mr. Mathew, police said.
The officer also said that the suspect, who was reportedly removed from the party, is currently hiding and a search is on to find him.
Police said the accused had contested as a CPI(M) candidate from Ranni in the last panchayat elections.
