Bryce Harper responds to vulgar chants from National fans with a home run and a gesture during his trot
There’s no love lost between Bryce Harper and Washington Nationals fans.
OK. there is one A little love is lost.
Harper and the Phillies stunned Washington after falling behind 5-0 on Thursday night, with Harper capping off the seven-run rally with a two-run home run in the ninth inning. The Phillies have now won seven of 10 games and are within four games of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.
Remember, this is the same team that fired its manager two months ago after a terrible start. Not a bad run, I’d say.

Anyway, back to Harper…

The former Nationals star has been on an absolute tear lately, hitting .429 with three home runs last week. His 18th goal of the season Thursday night came after hearing rude, “Fk Bryce Harper” chants from Washington fans all night.
Naturally, Harper made sure to salute them as he toured the bases… twice:

“The ring finger, I want to make sure that’s there,” Harper said after the game, adding that while it still surprises him, he’s used to hostile environments.
“It’s all part of it. It’s obviously weird coming from a fan base that I spent seven years sweating on, but there’s a lot of people here that like me. It’s all fun.”

Bryce Harper hasn’t won a World Series yet, so his ring finger confuses me. In fact, he won the World Series the year after the Nationals traded him!
I assume he used his ring finger just to avoid getting fined by Major League Baseball. Is that his only explanation, unless he wants to remind them that he’s a two-time MVP?
Suspicious.

My second question, by the way? National fans? Really Are you still mad at Bryce Harper for leaving? It’s been almost ten years. Ten years! Can you believe this? Harper played for the Nationals from 2012-2018 and then left for Philadelphia in 2019. He has now played with the Phillies for eight seasons.
This is crazy. I remember when Harper was in high school and truly was the “next big thing.” It’s all baseball people can talk about for years.

Later in 2012, he made his debut and was actually successful. That’s the crazy thing. Many of these phenomena Never succeeded, but Harper certainly succeeded. He’ll be a Hall of Famer one day. He was everything a high school phenom from Las Vegas should be.
He’s 33 now, but the fire still burns…clearly. He may be a husband and father, but he proved Thursday night that he’s more than happy to bark back when the time comes.
