Disney queue chaos hits Oxford Street for launch of new Lorcana card game: Flagship store is forced to close after being overwhelmed by fans waiting in line for 15 HOURS

Disney was forced to close its London flagship store today due to ‘massacre’, ahead of the launch of a limited edition set of new Lorcana trading cards.

Police were called to Oxford Street after collectors claimed a gang of ‘scalpers’ – the term for non-fans trying to profit from rare items – tried to attack the Disney Store after jumping the queue.

Fans of the trading card game began camping outside the store yesterday, but the check-out was canceled about 15 hours later amid chaotic scenes outside.

Eyewitnesses claimed that gangs of young men lined up and tried to storm the Disney Store, one of five places in the world where people could buy the Lorcana Curator’s Collection: Heroes Edition.

Fans have been eager to get their hands on six rare Lorcana cards featuring some of Disney’s best-loved female characters, worth around £100 per set.

An eyewitness who shared photos of the massacre said: ‘So we went from a single-file queue to complete chaos. [and] Gangs are threatening to attack the store.’

But in the midst of scrambling to get them, fans who waited outside overnight were left disappointed and ‘horrified’ when the store was closed for security reasons.

Another frustrated collector said: ‘I went from work to the Disney Store for 12 hours to buy 0 items because of these gang members, then came back to work.’

A third person in line said they begged Disney to give tickets to people waiting outside to avoid scalping.

In a tweet to the Disney Store, he said: ‘Why didn’t you give us tickets for the Lorcana sale when we asked for it in the middle of the night? Your manager has badly destroyed the Lorcana community. Also, you will no longer sell products worth thousands of lira.’

One fan in the queue said: ‘Extremely disappointing. It was definitely annoying that scalpers were allowed to queue. The police had to be called. We warned about this but security did nothing. So this is a 3.5 hour journey and almost 12 hours of waiting in vain.’

Another, from Edinburgh, said: ‘I was there as a carer with two wheelchair users and we encountered a dangerous situation due to crowd mismanagement. Trying to follow the order to disperse through a group of enemy scalps was terrifying.’

Disney did not initially apologize for the problems on Oxford Street today but thanked those queuing for their patience.

Announcing the store’s closure on social media, the company said: ‘Today’s Lorcana Special Edition release at our Oxford Street store has been postponed and the store is closed until further notice.

‘More information on how guests can purchase this product will be shared as soon as possible.

‘Thank you for your patience and understanding.’

The Lorcana set would be sold only in London and four other locations: World of Disney at Disney Springs in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, Disney Village in Disneyland Paris, and the Disney Store on Grafton Street in Dublin.

A spokesman later said: ‘Following disruption to the store front on Oxford Street overnight, we have taken the decision, together with local authorities, to open later than usual this morning.

We know how disappointing this is to our fans and we sincerely apologize to those affected. ‘We are working internally to review the process for future in-store launches.’
