Dog discharges shotgun inside truck, striking woman at Nebraska traffic light

A dog reportedly triggered a shotgun inside a truck while stopped at a gas station in Nebraska on Saturday, firing an explosion into the vehicle and wounding a woman in another vehicle a few feet away, according to local reports citing Nebraska authorities.
The incident occurred shortly after noon when the vehicle pulled up to Short Stop, a gas station and convenience store located at 2002 Avenue I, KNOP. reported.
According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, the dog remained inside the vehicle after its owner entered the store. At the exit, it was stated that another passenger traveling together also went out but remained near the front passenger side door.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the dog moved in the backseat and came into contact with the shotgun in the vehicle. Authorities stated that the firearm had a live bullet in the chamber and was fired after being triggered.

The explosion reportedly went through the front passenger door of the vehicle, left the parking lot and hit a woman stopped at a traffic light a few meters away.
Police said the shotgun bullet struck his upper right arm, which was standing outside the window at the time, according to KNOP.
His injuries were not life-threatening and a family member transported him to Regional Western Medical Center for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.
Police said the incident was initially reported to involve a BB gun, but responding officers were later informed that the incident involved a shotgun.

Investigators also found damage to the passenger side door of the vehicle consistent with a shotgun blast, KNOP added.
The Scottsbluff Police Department will continue to investigate the incident.
