Domestic air travel prices surge as the government does nothing

Australia’s beleaguered domestic airline passengers have been facing years of rising – sometimes extortionate – ticket prices not because the problem is poorly understood, but because governments have repeatedly chosen not to act.
Bureau of Infrastructure and Transportation Research Economics (BITRE) published the latest domestic flight ticket data Yesterday showed how even the cheapest airline tickets available continue to increase. Data for February 2025 shows that lowest-cost tickets have increased compared to February this year Business class fares remained flat, while limited economy seat prices increased by 9% and 4%.
