Will Ospreay wins Owen Hart Tournament match, vows to carry AEW to top

NEW YORK – Will Ospreay was able to have his “dream match” on Sunday night at All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Double or Nothing pay-per-view event in New York.
Ospreay faced Samoa Joe in the first round of the Owen Hart Men’s Tournament. The winner of the tournament will earn a shot at the AEW World Championship at All In, AEW’s first event of the year at Wembley Stadium in England.

He started the match with OsCutter and caught Joe off guard. The two battled throughout the match, but it was Ospreay who got the win by hitting Joe with multiple Hidden Blades. “The Air Assassin” was asked about his ability to carry AEW on his shoulders and be the face of the company should he win over Owen and capture the title later this year.
“This is because I have the confidence and belief that I can carry these three letters,” he said during the post-demonstration commotion. “The middle letter ‘E’ is the standard, man – elite. When everyone talks about elite pro wrestling, there’s nobody better on this planet. I believe that with all my heart. I believe that with my soul.”

Ospreay said that while his schoolmates dreamed of becoming football players, he dreamed of performing at Wembley Stadium as a professional wrestler.
He had battled a neck injury and worked with the Death Riders to become the weapon he once was. This whole situation bothered Joe, which resulted in a match at Double or Nothing.
Ospreay will face either Mark Davis or Jack Perry in the semifinals. On the men’s side, Swerve Strickland defeated Bandido in Double or Nothing. He will face either Claudio Castagnoli or Brody King in the semifinals.
