Donald Trump Blasts Pope Leo XIV as Iran War Feud Deepens

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump attacked Pope Leo XIV on social media on Sunday, saying the first American pope “must stop serving the Radical Left.”

It was an extraordinary attack on the global leader of the Catholic Church, further fueling the feud over the war in Iran.

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime and terrible on Foreign Policy,” the president wrote on social media. He also wrote: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have nuclear weapons.”

Speaking to reporters shortly after Air Force One landed outside Washington from Florida, Trump said, “We don’t like a pope who says it’s okay to have nuclear weapons.”

“He’s a very liberal person,” Trump said of Leo, adding: “I’m not a fan of Pope Leo.”

Trump’s post comes after Leo condemned Trump over the weekend “Illusion of omnipotence” it fuels this fuel US-Israeli war in Iran and demanded that political leaders stop and negotiate peace.

Leo presided over an evening prayer at St. Peter’s Basilica on the day the United States and Iran began face-to-face talks in Pakistan amid a fragile ceasefire.
