President Donald Trump declared in a recent interview that his power is “unlimited” when asked about the Iran war.
The interview, conducted by Axios’ Marc Caputo, saw the reporter ask him: “What have you learned as a result of exercising power, not just about the practices of power, but also about the limits of your power?” [Iran] conflict?”
“There are no limits. There are none. I haven’t learned that lesson yet,” Trump responded, adding, “I know there are, but there are no limits. We have completely defeated them militarily.”
The US conflict with Iran looks set to end after the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The 14-article document reveals the full framework of the Memorandum of Understanding negotiated between the USA and Iran last weekend.
In addition to measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the agreement requires the United States to immediately lift its naval blockade of Iran and suspend oil sanctions until a final solution is reached.
More importantly, it includes a $300 billion payment to Iran for its “reconstruction and economic development.” This particular detail sparked widespread concern among Americans about whether more taxpayer funds would be directed to Iran.
Senator Bill Cassidy condemned the agreement as “the worst foreign policy mistake in years.”
Cassidy lost her last primary after voters in Louisiana sent her two opponents into a runoff after Trump demonstrated against the incumbent, calling him a “disloyal disaster.”
“Before the war, the strait was open, Iran was crushed under sanctions, and 13 soldiers were still alive,” Cassidy said. he said. “Now 13 Americans are dead, families have paid billions of dollars to the pump, sanctions will be lifted and the bombings will stop. This is the worst foreign policy mistake in decades.”
In an interview with the Daily Wire, Republican Senator Ted Cruz said he would like to see more details about the deal, but noted that some aspects that have been made public are “not recommended.”
“What has been revealed so far unfortunately shows that the president was very poorly advised on this deal,” Cruz said. “History teaches us that giving billions of dollars to theocratic lunatics who want to kill us is a bad idea.”
Following the shooting, Trump’s overall approval ratings fell to an all-time low; Only 30% of Americans surveyed support Trump’s performance to date.
Regarding the war in Iran specifically, only 24% of Americans expressed support for the administration’s handling of the conflict.
