When you look at independent editorial decisions on particular stories, I have no doubt that the BBC has been quite sloppy in many cases and has been too slow to correct them.

But I think ultimately this is an opportunity, this is a crisis, and the way we can make the most of it to protect the BBC, to secure its future and to preserve its independence, is to make sure we can get rid of all the political appointees.
