FIRST ON FOX: Spanish authorities confirmed to Fox News Digital on Tuesday that Jimmy Gracey’s signature gold chain and rhinestone cross are not part of the investigation into the 20-year-old’s death.
Carles Valles, spokesman for the regional Catalan police Mossos d’Esquadra, confirmed that the necklace had not been found.
Just a day after the 20-year-old University of Alabama student’s body was found in the water near Port Olimpic, a Mediterranean marina just a few hundred yards from where she and her friends had partied at the famed Shoko nightclub, police concluded Gracey’s death was accidental.

During a two-day search from March 17 to March 19, police found Gracey’s phone in the possession of a person wanted in connection with a separate crime. His wallet containing money, credit cards and identification information was found floating in the water.

The results of the autopsy and toxicology report have not yet been released.
Jason Pack, a former FBI analyst, said the story of the evidence collected in the case must be filtered through the lens of the grieving Gracey family.
“Spanish authorities ruled his death an accident. Surveillance footage reportedly shows him walking towards water alone. An autopsy indicates drowning. The man arrested with Jimmy’s phone is believed to have found him on the street,” Pack told Fox News Digital. “Spanish investigators cleared him of involvement and charged him with illegal possession of stolen property. This explanation seems plausible with the right context – as if the trauma occurred after death.”

“A few details that have not been fully disclosed to the public are permanent,” he said. “Some reports have raised questions about certain forensic language in the preliminary autopsy findings. His wallet was returned intact: cash, cards, identification are all there… Spanish police say they support the conclusion that he was not the target.”
“The gold chain he was wearing in the last photograph known to him alive has not been found. This may not mean anything. Breakwaters are unforgiving and currents are strong,” he continued. “But families cannot grieve openly while questions still remain. We hope that Spanish authorities have met privately with the Graceys and told them every detail.”

“It’s clear that a family that raises a young man like Jimmy knows something about faith and grace,” he said. “I pray they find them both in the coming days.”
Gracey was buried Tuesday in her hometown of Elmhurst, Illinois.
